Every once in a while I’m completely shocked by the feedback I get on this blog. I mean, some days a post drops like a rock. Other days I’m completely flabbergasted when a post goes “viral” on Twitter.

Gosh, a while back I even had a post that pulled sixty “retweets”.

I’m not kidding. It was called “15 Rejections To Answer Objections” and it’s one of the more popular posts on this blog. It pulled almost 50 of those “retweets” in a single day. The rest added up over time.

I wish I could say it was the best post I’ve ever written. That it was like heavenly angels came down and guided my pen, but that’s simply not the case. Really there’s only one reason this blog post was so popular on Twitter – SOCIAL PROOF.

Mike Dillard “tweeted” it to his fans and they loved it. Because it was popular with them, the “tweets” racked up. The more tweets it got, well, the more tweets it got. It’s nothing more than Social Proof.

The Psychology Of Influence

I don’t know if you’ve read the book Influence – The Psychology Of Persuasion by Robert B. Cialdini, Ph.D. but a large part of his book talks about the scientific research he conducted on one trigger in particular – Social Proof.

What Is Social Proof Really?

If you don’t know what Social Proof is, it’s nothing more than the so-called “herd instinct”. It’s the idea that we tend to look at what others do before we act on our own. We follow the leader.

The really cool insight Cialdini had that other scientists did not was that social proof was a much more powerful motivator than anybody used to think.

But how can you use Social Proof to build your business?

Well, I have a few ideas. You might have some of your own you would like to share after reading this list too.

Here’s How To Build Your Credibility With Social Proof:

Technology…

• Add the Tweetmeme plugin for Twitter.

• Add a Twitter Counter to your blog.

• Add Facebook share buttons to your blog.

• Do everything you can to get more comments.

• Do everything you can to drive traffic to your blog.

• If you have testimonials then use them.

(make sure you comply with the FTC)

Associations…

• Join the Association Of Better Networkers.

• Consider joining your local Chamber of Commerce.

Extra credibility tips…

• Upload pictures of your lifestyle, friends, and family.

• Upload video testimonials from your team.

• Network with big name network marketers.

• Master a valuable skill like PPC or copywriting.

• Further your education with a diploma or degree.

Mindset…

• Stop acting like a follower – be a leader

• Get your head straight – attitude.
